MOLD AND HOW TO GET RID OF IT
WHAT IS MOLD?
We have probably all encountered mold at one time or another. It might have been in the shower, or on a stale piece of bread or cheese. There are many different species of mold, but all molds share some common characteristics.
Molds have the potential to cause health problems. Molds produce allergens (substances that can cause allergic reactions), irritants, and in some cases, potentially toxic substances (mycotoxins). Inhaling or touching mold or mold spores may cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. They can be immediate or delayed. Research on mold and health effects is ongoing.
- Molds thrive in moist and humid environments.
- Molds require an organic food source. One common food source is cellulose, which is found in building materials such as wood and drywall.
- Molds are spread by microscopic airborne particles called “spores”.

HOW DO I GET RID OF MOLD? (OVER 10 SQ FT)
When the extent of the mold is 10 sq ft or more, we recommend that you call ServiceMaster for assistance in obtaining an Industrial Hygienist that will provide testing to determine the types of mold and the spore count in the affected areas and to provide a written protocol for remediation. ServiceMaster will follow the mold protocol to provide you with a written estimate for mold remediation. We highly recommend that after remediation is completed that a clearance test be done to assure that all the mold is clear, having these documents is needed for peace of mind and resale purposes.
